10 Things to Know About Adult Bed Wetting

Don't let your embarrassment stop you from seeking the help you need.Top 10 thing to know about Adult Bed Wetting You are not alone. Approximately 26 million American adults are affected by urinary incontinence and 1-2% of those experience bed-wetting. While it is an embarrassing problem, it is something that can usually be treated, and there are options for management. Don’t let your embarrassment stop you from talking to a doctor and seeking the help you need. It is called nocturnal enuresis. It is a medical condition. It is important to understand that adult bed-wetting is a far cry from childhood bed wetting. It is usually the result of a disorder, condition, or problem with the bladder. Therefore seeking medical treatment should be a priority. It can be treated. As mentioned, often times the underlying cause is treatable, and when treated the symptoms (bed-wetting) will resolve as well. You do not necessarily have to live with it your whole life. And even if it can’t be cured completely, there are things you can do to manage it in order to maintain normalcy and dignity. There are risk factors to consider. High stress, mismanaged diabetes, infection of the urinary tract, too much caffeine, and other factors may be contributing to, or putting you at higher risk for nocturnal enuresis. Avoiding those risk factors can help with management and control. There are different causes. There are a number of reasons an adult may have nocturnal enuresis, ranging from a neurological disorder, prostate obstruction, diabetes, overactive bladder, complications from childbirth or other medical issues and more. Understanding potential causes can help you to identify why you are suffering, and get a proper treatment plan set up. Treat the cause. Talk to a doctor. All too often individuals get caught up in the bed wetting itself and try to treat the symptoms. They stop drinking water at night, set alarms, seek medication, which can help reduce the symptoms but not eliminate them. Treat the cause first and the symptoms should lessen as a result. Manage the symptoms. Treat the cause, and manage the symptoms. Management can include several things from medications to the above-mentioned lifestyle changes, to bladder training and biofeedback. But in the end, it usually also involves the use of some type of incontinence or absorbent product to help catch leaks, and protect skin, clothing, and bedding. The right size, fit, and absorbency are key to protection and comfort. You can find incontinence supplies and products on LiveAnew, and use BestFit to quickly and easily sort through the options. Lifestyle changes can help. Avoiding caffeine, cutting off beverages a few hours before sleep, eating foods that aren’t natural diuretics, doing bladder training exercises and the like can all help with adult bed wetting. Medication might help. There are many instances where the right medication can eliminate the problem. This depends on the cause, and requires you to talk to a health care provider. Help yourself. Often those with nocturnal enuresis feel helpless and at the mercy of the health care professionals, medication, and the like. But there are things you can do to help yourself, such as bladder training, where you teach the bladder to eliminate at specific times, Kegel exercises, where you strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and waking at night to avoid wetting. Take control back and start living your life.

Depend Adult Diapers (briefs) - What happened to them? Where can I buy them?

This is a question we've heard from so many customers. Why don't the stores carry this product?  Its usually because it does not sell well and  they have other uses for the space - like the new Depend Silhouettes for Women and Real Fit for Men.Regardless what the reason is for Depend Protection with Tabs being discontinued by the stores, there are thousands of consumers who appreciated the extra protection they provide. We have been fielding calls from frustrated consumers who can no longer find Depend Protection with tabs in the stores. The good news is that we have an ample supply of Depend Maximum Protection Adult Diaper Brief.BackgroundWe realize these products are very confusing for many consumers.  Only recently, these were called Depend Briefs.  However, the Depend people decided to change the name of pull-on underwear to briefs and therefore had to change the name of 'briefs' to something else, so they settled on Protection with tabs. This product type is also sometimes referred to as a 'diaper' in that it resembles old baby diapers that have tape tabs. They are also changing the case count from 4 - 20 count bags on medium size to 3 bags per case.  The same is happening on the large size going from 4 - 16 count bags to 3 bags per case.  We are working on details of the pricing as we believe they will be lowering the case price accordingly.  They are reducing the number of packages per case at the behest of the 'big stores' that don't want to have much inventory on the shelves.  Our shelves are fully stocked with Depend Maximum Protection Adult Diaper Brief.  We ship the same day in most cases, doorstep delivery is included with these items and you can expect delivery in 3 to 5 workdays, sometimes even the next day depending on where you live. Depend Maximum Protection Adult Diaper Brief is the most absorbent Depend you can buy.  So if you need maximum protection, this is the product we recommend you try.A full case of  medium size (19"- 34" Waist 26"- 41" Hip) includes 60 pair with 3 packages of 20 briefs0.  Also available in large size (35"- 49" Waist; 42"- 54" Hip, a case of 48 includes 3 packages of 16 briefs.  Both convenient shipment to your doorstep.  Delivered within 3 to 5 days -- many times in 1 to 2 days.

Prevention of Adult Diaper Rash

Incontinence is an ongoing and at times overwhelming challenge for many people - much of it psychological.  Whether you are dealing with incontinence yourself or you are a caregiver for someone who is dealing with incontinence, you can find that this problem has many different challenges. Unfortunately, one of the most common challenges is the occurrence of rash and other skin issues. Many incontinence sufferers and caregivers find that they have to deal with the ongoing obstacle of keeping their skin healthy while using incontinence pads or adult diapers. The good news is that by taking some simple precautions you can prevent diaper rash and help to prevent painful and potentially serious infections. Here is what you need to know about preventing diaper rash. Only about half of all adult diaper changes include a wipe to clean urine and fecal matter from the skin. Together these can cause skin breakdown, especially on older, compromised skin. You wouldn't change a baby's diaper without using a wipe, but for some reason, many adult diaper changes do not include a wipe, so that is my first recommendation. Know what is causing it - The first step in preventing adult diaper rash is to know what is causing it. There can be different factors that will make diaper rash much worse or more common. If the patient is not changing their incontinence undergarment enough or if they are dietary issues, they can contribute to the incidences of rash. It should never be accepted that rash is a part of incontinence. Treating rash is very possible if the underlying cause is known.  Take the time to change - Many times a person with incontinence feels that they don't have to change their incontinence undergarment on a regular basis or they are simply unable to. This is an open invitation to diaper rash. The incontinence product that is being used should be changed on a regular basis in order to keep the moisture and the bacteria away from the skin. If the person with incontinence is unable to do this for themselves then the caregiver will need to make sure that this happens.  Use the right incontinence supplies-Many times adult diaper rash is the result of not using the right incontinence supplies. It is critical that the person with incontinence is wearing the right incontinence undergarment. In addition, the incontinence product or adult diaper should be the right size and absorbency. Not using the right size or absorbency can lead to this problem. Finally, manufacturers of incontinence undergarments understand that men and women have very different needs when it comes to incontinence. This makes it crucial that the patient with incontinence is using the incontinence supplies that are made for their gender. Remember to use a wipe to cleanse the skin.  Consider using creams and powder - Protection from diaper rash is not just found in the incontinence product that is used. People with incontinence and caregivers can take proactive steps to make sure that the chances of diaper rash are reduced by using skin cream and talcum powder to protect the skin. There are many different formulations of creams that can protect delicate skin that is exposed to urinary and fecal matter. Many people also find that using talcum powder can help to keep the skin dry and provide a protective barrier, as well. Think of these three steps to effective skincare: Cleanse, Moisturize and Protect.  See a doctor if it persists - Finally, it is important that if the diaper rash has not been cleared up by any of the above-listed measures the patient should see a doctor. Diaper rash is more than just an uncomfortable nuisance. Patients with rash are at risk for far more serious infections and skin issues so they should make sure that if they have persistent diaper rash they see their health care provider. This is important for obtaining medical assistance in order to prevent more serious medical problems.

Tips for Decreasing the Instances of Developing Urinary Tract Infections While Using Adult Diapers to Manage Incontinence

Managing incontinence comes down to diligence and proper care of your genitals. If you do not properly cleanse your genitals after changing out your incontinence products, the urine can lead to very painful skin rashes along with other issues like a urinary tract infection. Many elderly individuals are not as diligent in changing out their incontinence products, which places them at risk for urinary tract infections. A urinary tract infection is very painful and irritating to a regular person but in the elderly, it can be very serious as they do not always remember to take the antibiotics necessary to treat the infection. If left untreated, a urinary tract infection can lead to other problems like infection of the kidneys. As a caregiver of an elderly loved one you need to focus your efforts on helping your loved one to change out their adult diapers and to wash their skin so they do not become susceptible to urinary tract infections. There are some great incontinence products on the market that you can use. Some people use sanitary wipes each time they change their incontinence products, which is a great way to remove the urine from the skin. Flushable wipes are a great option instead of using a towel or even wet toilet paper to clean the urine from the skin.  Another thing you can do is to purchase the right type of incontinence products. Purchasing high-quality incontinence products will be able to help remove urine from the skin and will allow air to get in, allowing the skin to breathe. Purchase high-quality products that are made specifically for your gender. To find some quality products try LiveAnew BestFit. Here you can find incontinence products for men and incontinence products for women that are specific to your needs and the type of incontinence you are dealing with. A lot of people find that they can easily manage their condition by using a pad where others may need to opt for adult diapers or some type of incontinence product that provides additional protection.  Frequently change your incontinence underwear. If you wear it too long, it will end up leading to infections. You need to make sure you change them each time they are soiled instead of waiting for them to become completely filled. When you do this, you remove the bacteria found in the urine and fecal matter that may end up leading to a painful urinary tract infection. Since you may need to frequently change your incontinence underwear you might consider using washable products instead of disposable ones. This will save you more money on your incontinence supplies as you only need to invest in them once a year or so instead of needing to make multiple purchases each month to deal with your incontinence problem. What if you are caring for a loved one that is dealing with incontinence? You may struggle to get them to frequently change their diapers as they can forget or just find it to be a hassle. Remind them of the importance of changing their diapers to prevent infections and then consider using a timer or clock that will remind them to change their diaper. Having a reminder clock is a great way to remind yourself to check up on them as well. Set the clock for every 2 hours or however frequently they seem to soil their diapers. If they have a fecal incontinence problem it is important that you make sure they change their diaper right away as the bacteria in the fecal matter can cause serious problems.

One of the biggest challenges in managing incontinence is making sure you don’t have leaks or accidents especially when you are least expecting it! I found myself in the store the other day in a line which was to long and my incontinence underwear didn’t provide the absorbency that I needed. Talking with Others About Incontinence: 7 Important Tips

How to start the conversationWhether you are the person dealing with incontinence or a caregiver for someone who is, having a conversation about this intimate subject can be difficult. You may be embarrassed or worry about how others will perceive you if you share the struggles you are having. If you are a caregiver for an aging parent who is in denial about their incontinence it can be even more difficult to bring up the subject. However, if you are looking for support or want to start the process of helping a loved one manage their incontinence then having a productive conversation about all aspects of incontinence from treatment to incontinence supplies is crucial. Some important things to rememberThere are certain things that can help to make the conversation easier whether you are asking for help and support or needing to have a loved one acknowledge the issue of incontinence. By taking these factors into consideration you can make sure the conversation about incontinence is as productive as possible. Know your role. It important to understand your role in the conversation. If you are a caregiver offering direct care versus a concerned family member the conversation will be quite different. If you are asking for understanding for your own incontinence versus asking for help, again your role in the conversation will be different. By understanding your role in the conversation you can direct it to be as effective as possible. Understand who should do the talking. Sometimes relationships do not allow for this type of discussion. If this is true in your case then consider having a doctor or other health care provider guide the discussion. Many times individuals dealing with incontinence are more willing to listen to a trusted healthcare provider then a family member or caring friend. Have a set goal. No one wants to be embarrassed about their incontinence and caring friends and family members don’t want to make the situation any worse. Simply discussing the challenge of incontinence isn’t enough. Have a set goal in mind. Does the individual need to seek medical treatment? Does the individual need different incontinence products? By having a goal in mind then you can make sure the conversation is directed and productive. Pick the right time. There is no denying this can be an emotionally charged subject to discuss. Picking the right time to discuss incontinence and needed management strategies is critical to how successful the conversation will end up being. Avoid times of added stress, fatigue or other emotionally charged times in order to have a calm and productive conversation. Use the right tone. No one wants to be scolded or made to feel bad about incontinence. An understanding and gentle tone can go a long way to gaining understanding with whoever you are talking to. No matter how difficult you find it try to keep a normal, calm, and gentle tone when discussing incontinence with someone you care about or discussing your own issues and the help you need. Empathize with the person. Empathy shows while you may not completely understand, you do care. Let the other person know this can be a difficult issue to deal with but you will help however you can. This can go a long way toward gaining acceptance. Normalize the subject of incontinence. Whether you are dealing with your own incontinence or helping someone else try to normalize incontinence management. You can let other people know you are doing everything you can for your own incontinence. If you are a caregiver for someone with incontinence letting them know while this issue will be a part of the daily routine and will not be as disruptive as they fear can go a long ways to making incontinence management a lot easier for everyone involved. What’s the best product for me or my loved one?It can be overwhelming to try and determine exactly what incontinence supplies you or the loved one in your care may need. There are more choices than ever before and they’re changing all the time. This creates even more confusion. There’s pull-on underwear for men, for women, for either; there’s boxers for men, adjustable underwear, briefs (adult diapers), pads for women, liners, guards for men, shields for men, underpads, chair pads, bed pads, undergarments, booster pads, swim pants, washable products, shaped pads, and soon bladder control inserts. The Caregiver Partnership understands this confusion and have created an easy to use style guidewhich explains all the style options which can help you determine what incontinence products are right for you or you. You can also speak with one of their knowledgeable ladies and try samples before you buy ($3.49).Get real help from real people.  Since 2004, The Caregiver Partnership has been helping women just like you. Night Time Elderly Care: What Caregivers Should Know

There is no denying the job of caregivers for an elderly loved one can be taxing and at times overwhelming.Unfortunately, many times the challenges that are a part of taking care of a senior are magnified at night. Many caregivers make the mistake of thinking once the senior in their care is in bed they can let down their guard. The reality is many problems that occur with seniors happen at night. The best strategy for any caregiver is to be aware of what the problems and hazards are at night and prepare to deal with them. When caregivers become familiar with the problems that can happen at nighttime when a senior is in their care, they can then take proactive steps in order to minimize or even in some cases reduce the risk. Some of these obstacles include but are not limited to:  Night awakening-Many seniors have trouble sleeping or have to make frequent trips to the bathroom during the night. This poses a risk in several different ways. Seniors can end up falling, becoming disoriented or reacting emotionally when they get up at night. If the senior is able to get out of bed by themselves it is crucial to have the right type of lighting available so that they can quickly see where they are and how they want to move through the home. Today, there are number of different lighting systems that are motion activated. This gives peace of mind to both the caregiver and the senior as they know that they can get up and immediately have a lighted path.  Incontinence-While incontinence is not directly related to age many seniors have this problem. The reality is that many seniors simply do not have the needed mobility to get out of bed quickly enough to reach the bathroom. This makes it crucial that you have the right incontinence supplies to meet their needs. Do not assume that a particular adult diaper will work for your senior. Many times it takes trial and error before the right incontinence product is found. Once the senior is able to use this product then it is less likely that leakage and accidents will occur. In addition, there are incontinence supplies that will protect the mattress and bedding should an accident occur. This reduces the chance that a complete change of bedding and clothing will have to happen in the middle of the night.  •Falling-The number one type of accident for seniors is falling. In order to prevent this from happening caregivers should carefully review the mobility of the senior in their care. The good news is that with some simple changes caregivers can make nighttime just as safe for their loved one as the daytime hours. From bedrails to mobility aids there are items to assist your senior and help to keep them from falling. In addition, make sure that there is a clear path at night free from obstacles or items that might slip from under the senior’s feet.

However, stress incontinence may also end up releasing the entire bladder also! It is just important that you track your symptoms and know how much urine your body is releasing without your control throughout the day. Doing so will help you to select the best adult diapers to effectively manage your condition.  If incontinence is a new development in your health, speak to your doctor immediately! Bladder Control Basics

Understanding your body makes it easier to take controlFollowing is helpful information about: The urinary process Kegel exercises to strengthen your bladder muscles Common causes of bladder leaks Types of bladder leakage Voiding diary - instructions and printable form We'll start out with a snap shot of how your system processes urine - Urinary Tract 101, if you will! Then we'll identify some of Knowing the basics will help you understand your needs and how best to talk with your doctor. In many cases, little bladder leaks can be cured and in all cases it can be managed. The Urinary ProcessYour urinary tract is a system for collecting, storing and expelling liquid waste (urine) from your body. The bladder stores the urine. When the bladder is full, it triggers the urge to expel the stored urine through the urethra. Special muscles called sphincter muscles hold the urethral tube closed so that you can control the release of urine. Another muscle group called the pubococcygeus (PCG), also helps in the process. It encircles the urethra, vagina and rectum. Many women with incontinence, or loss of bladder control, have weakened or damaged muscles, and may not be able to sense when their bladders are full, which leads to difficulty in controlling urination. Many women are able to gain back some strength in these muscles and minimize lack of bladder control by learning and practicing Kegel exercises.Kegel Excersizes - to strengthen bladder musclesIf your symptoms of urine leakage usually happen after coughing, sneezing, laughing, or lifting heavy objects, your physician may ask you to perform Kegel exercises. Kegel exercises are designed to strengthen the muscles located around the bladder opening. By exercising these muscles, you may improve your symptoms. In order to realize the maximum benefit from these exercises, it is very important that you perform them correctly. You can identify the muscles located around the bladder opening by starting and stopping your urine stream. These are the same muscles used for Kegel exercises.Stopping your urine stream is only a way to identify the muscles used for this exercise. It is not advisable to perform Kegel exercises while urinating.Another way to identify the muscles used for Kegel exercises is to tighten the rectal muscles (as when holding back gas or completing a bowel movement). Because they are part of the same muscle group, the rectal muscles always work with the muscles located around the bladder opening. It may take several tries to locate these muscles. Try not to use your stomach, buttock, or leg muscles. See your health care provider if you have difficulty identifying these muscles.Once you have identified these muscles, there are different types of Kegel exercises: the quick Kegel and the slow Kegel. In performing the quick Kegel, these muscles are rapidly tightened and relaxed. During the slow Kegel, the muscles are tightened for 5 to 10 seconds and then relaxed. Most people start by completing a set of ten Kegels four times a day. Each week, the number of contractions and relaxations, and the length of time the contractions are held, are gradually increased. Kegel exercises may be done with other activities, such as watching television, ironing, or relaxing. Because it may take several weeks to notice an improvement, it is important that you continue doing these exercises. Regular periodic follow-ups with your physician will assess the benefits of these exercises as well as provide the opportunity to review your Kegel exercise technique. If your symptoms do not improve, ask your physician, nurse, or therapist to help you. Many individuals need a health care provider's help to identify the correct muscles to use.Common Causes of Bladder LeaksLittle bladder leaks are not an inevitable part of getting older. And it's not something you just have to "live with" after bearing a child. Little bladder leaks are not a disease—it is a symptom of another medical condition or the side effect of a medication. You may be surprised to learn that there are a number of things that can cause bladder control loss. It's helpful to recognize what kind of bladder control loss you might have so you understand it and can better explain it to your health care provider.Short Term Bladder Control LossUrinary tract and bladder infections, constipation and medication side effects are some of the most readily treated causes of short-term bladder control loss. Following a visit to your physician, relief is usually quick.Long Term Bladder Control LossChildbirth, auto accidents or surgical procedures can sometimes cause longer-term conditions. Recovery from these causes may affect the rate at which little bladder leaks can improve. Types of Bladder Leakage Stress incontinence Urge incontinence Overflow incontinence Functional incontinence Mixed incontinence Anatomic or developmental abnormalities Temporary incontinence Bedwetting Stress IncontinenceMost common type with women. People with stress incontinence involuntarily leak urine while exercising, coughing, sneezing, laughing or lifting because pressure on the bladder causes leaking. Think of a balloon which leaks air (or water) because the knot is loose. These activities apply sudden pressure to the bladder, causing urine to leak out. Stress incontinence is the most common type of incontinence among women, and may be due to weakened pelvic muscles, weakening in the wall between the bladder and vagina, or from a change in the position of the bladder. In many cases, the condition develops as a result of pregnancy and childbirth. Other causes of stress incontinence include: Weakening of muscles that hold the bladder in place, or of the bladder itself Weakening of the urethral sphincter muscles In men, benign prostatic hyperplasia (a noncancerous overgrowth of the prostate gland) prostate cancer or from prostate surgery In women, a hormone imbalance or a decrease in estrogen following menopause, which can weaken the sphincter muscle Damage to the nerves controlling the bladder resulting from diseases such as diabetes, stroke, Parkinson's disease and/or multiple sclerosis, or from treatment of gynecologic or pelvic cancers with surgery, radiation or chemotherapy Urge IncontinenceMost common in the elderly. Urge incontinence is the frequent, sudden urge to urinate with little control of the bladder (especially when sleeping, drinking, or listening to running water). It’s a problem with an over sensitive bladder.Urge incontinence is also known as spastic bladder, overactive bladder or reflex incontinence. Marked by a need to urinate more than seven times daily or more than twice nightly, urge incontinence is most common in the elderly. It also may be a symptom of a urinary infection in the bladder or kidneys, or may result from injury, illness or surgery, such as: Stroke Diseases of the nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's or Parkinson's Tumors or cancer in the uterus, bladder or prostate Interstitial cystitis (inflamed bladder wall) Prostatitis (inflamed prostate) Prostate removal, cesarean section, hysterectomy, or surgery involving the lower intestine or rectum Overflow IncontinenceCaused by weakened bladder muscles. Individuals with overflow incontinence can’t completely empty their bladder, causing either a constantly full bladder requiring frequent urination or a constant dribbling of urine, or both. This type of incontinence is generally caused by weakened bladder muscles as a result of nerve damage from diabetes or other diseases. It can also result from the urethra being blocked due to kidney or urinary stones, tumors, an enlarged prostate in men, or a birth defect.Functional IncontinenceCommon among elderly with certain conditions. Functional incontinence is the most common type of incontinence among elderly individuals with arthritis, Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease. Frequently, these individuals are unable to control their bladder before reaching the bathroom due to limitations in moving, thinking or communicating.Mixed incontinenceSome individuals have two types of incontinence simultaneously, typically stress incontinence and urge incontinence. Mixed incontinence is the most common type in women, and what causes the two forms may or may not be related.Anatomic or developmental abnormalitiesIncontinence is sometimes caused by a physical or neurologic abnormality. An abnormal opening between the bladder and another structure (fistula) can cause incontinence, as can a leak in the urinary system. Some patients lose normal bladder function because of damage to part of the nervous system due to dysfunction, trauma, disease or injury. Called neurogenic bladder, the damage can cause the bladder to be underactive, in which it is unable to contract and empty completely, or overactive, contracting too quickly or frequently.Temporary IncontinenceTemporary incontinence may be caused by: Severe constipation Infections in the urinary tract or vagina Certain medications, such as diuretics (water pills); sleeping pills or muscle relaxants; narcotics, such as morphine; antihistamines; antidepressants; antipsychotic drugs; or calcium channel blocker. See Your Doctor We hope this information has given you a better understanding of the causes and types of little bladder leaks and will make it a little easier to talk with your doctor. You can help your doctor make an accurate assessment by completing a urine voiding diary for seven days before your visit. Also, make a list of any prescription and over-the counter medications you're taking and let him/her know of any family history, accidents and injuries that might be contributing to your little bladder leaks. Keep in mind that many women who seek treatment see an improvement in their situation. Voiding Diary The urine voiding diary gives your physician a picture of your incontinence. Keeping an accurate and thorough diary will allow your doctor to see a clearer picture of your individual situation. Try to keep your diary for at least a week before you see your doctor, then take it with you to your appointment.Instructions: Make at least seven copies of the blank voiding diary form so that you can keep the diary for a week Record the time of day when you void in the toilet or have leakage Record (yes/no) that you voided in the toilet in the "Toilet" column Indicate the degree of leakage (none/damp/wet) in the "Leakage" column Indicate if you changed your absorbent product or had to change your clothing Note your activity at the time of any leakage Measuring the amount you drank or voided may help the doctor or nurse assess your condition. If possible, record these measurements in the "Fluid Intake" and "Fluid Output" columns.

Dementia - Alzheimer's - Incontinence is a Common Problem

Dementia - Alzheimer's - Incontinence is a Common Problem If you are the caregiver for a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s you may have the additional challenge of dealing with incontinence. Many seniors who are suffering from these conditions also experience incontinence as a result of the loss of cognitive functioning. Many times caregivers must turn to using adult diapers as the best means of managing and dealing with incontinence issues since the patient is unable to manage the incontinence themselves. Adult diapers can be bought anywhere that incontinence products are sold. The caregiver may need to purchase additional incontinence supplies such as incontinence bed pads and wipes that are specially made to deal with incontinence. These can also be bought on sites that offer adult incontinence products. For help and guidance in selecting incontinence products please LiveAnew BestFit Helper Tool It is important to stress that no matter the neurological state of the patient whenever someone is experiencing incontinence they should be evaluated by a doctor. Keep in mind that the dementia or Alzheimer’s itself is not directly causing the incontinence. The incontinence is only a side effect of these conditions. This means that there could be another underlying medical reason for the incontinence. Because of this it is crucial that any patient who is having incontinence symptoms be evaluated by their doctor. This way the doctor can determine the cause of the incontinence and recommend any applicable treatment. Because there are so many care issues that surround a patient with dementia or Alzheimer’s it can be easy to overlook incontinence symptoms. However, it is important that caregivers understand that this is not a problem that typically gets better on its own. Incontinence management typically takes on two different forms. Treatment and in home management are the two different areas that caregivers will need to focus on. Because of the limited cognitive abilities of patients with dementia or Alzheimer’s doctors typically do not prescribe physical therapy or behavioral therapies. These types of treatments often depend on heavy involvement from the patient which is most often not possible when it comes to patients with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Instead doctors often rely on medication, or in severe cases of incontinence, surgery for their patients who are already dealing with neurological issues. It is important to understand that even when a patient has dementia or Alzheimer’s some cases of incontinence are highly treatable. In home management of incontinence can be done in several different ways. First, one of the home management steps that can make dealing with incontinence more effective is for caregivers to help their loved one visit the bathroom on a regular schedule. Regular bathroom breaks can cut down on the amount of incontinence accidents. Keep in mind that your loved one may be reluctant to go but with gentle persuasion you can keep them on a regular voiding schedule Finally, the caregiver should make sure that the patient has the right incontinence product to meet their needs. Because of the limited capabilities of patients with dementia or Alzheimer’s many caregivers find that adult diapers work well to help manage incontinence. These adult diapers are designed to deal with moderate to heavy incontinence. Keep in mind that there are incontinence products for men and incontinence products for women and adult diapers are no different. You should choose the gender, style, and level of absorbency that is best for your loved one. Adult diapers are easy to remove and change so that caregivers can help to keep their loved one in their care dry and comfortable.

Incontinence Products for the 5 Million Men With Incontinence. Briefs, Boxers, Guards, Shields and More

Incontinence… Its Not Just a ‘Women Thing’ When people think about incontinence they assume this is a "women's issue". While the majority of people who experience incontinence are female this doesn’t mean men are exempt. Approximately 5 million American men are dealing with some form of incontinence. Many men find after prostate surgery they are experiencing incontinence. In addition, some men find they must deal with incontinence as a side effect from neurological diseases or spinal or head injury. Other men find the aging process or the medications they are taking can bring on incontinence symptoms. A small minority of men who are diagnosed do not have a clear-cut reason as to why they are experiencing symptoms. However, if you are a man who is experiencing incontinence it is important to know you are not alone. Not too long ago, both men and women had little to choose from when it came to incontinence products. Their choices were limited to one size fits all, unisex adult diapers. Today, manufacturers of incontinence supplies understand men have very different needs than women when it comes to incontinence products. To meet these needs a number of brands now offer specific incontinence products for men. This allows men who are looking for effective ways to manage their incontinence to find the right supplies to meet their needs. Here is a brief overview of the available incontinence supplies for men- Briefs or boxers-The most commonly used incontinence product for men is the pull-on underwear (referred to as briefs by the Depend brand) or boxers by the Prevail brand. Many of these incontinence products for men come in a variety of styles. This way men can choose whether they want to continue wearing a brief or a boxer style. Most incontinence briefs or boxers come with odor control and are made with discreet "rustle free" material which allows the wearer to continue with his daily activities without fear of someone noticing they are using incontinence supplies for men. This type of product is sometimes referred to as an adult diaper. They are available in both a pull up style and a style with tabs for easier changing. It is important to keep in mind there are a large number of styles when it comes to incontinence products and it can be overwhelming trying to find the right one to meet your specific needs. LiveAnew offers over 500 choices in incontinence supplies (10 times more than even the big box stores). This means the odds are good you will find exactly what you need.Consumers are very confused about which incontinence products will work best for them or a loved one. In a recent study, Kimberly-Clark, makers of Depend and Poise brands, discovered those buying incontinence products for the first time, waste $130 on average in trial and error mode. That’s about 10 bags of products which can’t be returned, once opened. That’s why the free and easy Incontinence Product Finder was developed. It saves you time, money and frustration by making it easy to sort through hundreds of products - fast. Plus they offer knowledgeable Product Specialists you can call and speak with (800-985-1353). Incontinence pads-Some men only have very light leakage and choose to use an incontinence pad in their regular underwear. Today, incontinence pads - usually referred to as shield or guards are sized so men who choose to use this type of incontinence product can find the right size to wear comfortably and discreetly. Other men choose to add additional protection to their incontinence underwear by adding a pad for additional leakage protection. However, many consumers wind up buying multiple incontinence products before finding the right one.   Guards (also referred to as male guards or shields) -Incontinence guards or shields have an anatomical, form-fitting shape which provides superior comfort and fit. Many men choose to use this type of incontinence product after prostate surgery if they are experiencing urinary leakage (which frequently their doctor fails to mention as a consequence of surgery). The guard fits snugly and adds an additional layer of protection which helps to protect against leakage and accidents. They have a cloth-like outer cover that is soft and discreet. Most incontinence guards have an adhesive peel strip that keeps the guard firmly in place.Consumers report one of the biggest worries and hassles about managing incontinence is running out of their incontinence product. When this happens it means a run to the store and the possible embarrassment and frustration of the store not even have what they need. That’s why The CareGiver Partnership offers their Never Run Out automatically scheduled delivery service which makes sure you’ll never run out.

Three Product Types to Help with Adult Incontinence

Adult incontinence is a condition in which an individual will have a difficult time managing his or her urge to urinate. Some people will have incontinence as a result of aging where others have it happen as a side effect to diabetes or other medical issues. Younger women often experience it during pregnancy and childbirth as the extra pressure on their bladder can cause leakage. They may also experience weakened pelvic floor muscles as a result of pregnancy and this can also cause you to have bladder incontinence problems. Adults that suffer from incontinence often are unable to control the frequent urge to urinate and it can arise at any time, causing them to be incredibly embarrassed. While incontinence can be pretty embarrassing, there are some things that you can do about it. First, schedule an appointment with your doctor to discuss the problems you are having. They may be able to suggest things like using Kegel exercises to help improve the muscle strength and improve your condition. If this doesn't seem to work, you may need surgery to help improve your condition. Second, research all of the various incontinence products that are on the market and can help you out. There are several products to choose from, many of which will easily be able to capture the urine that leaks out of the bladder throughout the day. This allows you to enjoy your social life again without others knowing that you do have a problem with incontinence. Many of the incontinence products are beneficial for helping to keep you dry and to prevent others from detecting you have a problem. They can conceal the smell of urine, which also helps you to easily hide your condition from others. With all the products out there it can be challenging to find one that you will be able to use. Here are 3 products that can help you properly manage adult incontinence:1.       Disposable briefs – these are excellent in helping to manage incontinence. These briefs can be worn as a replacement to your underwear and they will collect any urine that leaks out of the bladder. They can then be tossed into the garbage so you don’t need to worry about washing them. Some of the adult diapers have scented padding where most just come with absorbable padding that will gather the urine. They are designed for both men and women and are very discrete.2.       Underwear pads and liners – for individuals with light incontinence problems, using underwear liners and other things is a great way to manage your problem. You simply add the pad or liner to your regular underwear and change them out if you do leak throughout the day. The underwear liners are effective at keeping you odor free and dry and you can choose from several different types of absorbency.3.       Washable incontinence underwear – if the disposable products are too expensive for you, try using some of the washable products. This is a great way to manage your condition without needing to spend a lot of money. The washable underwear is cheaper and its very discrete because it is designed to look exactly like the underwear you are already use to using. It is also nice because the cotton material is quite breathable, making it much easier on your skin.
